A public meeting to discuss the Future of the British Legion Land (just off Church Road) was held on Friday April 29th at Distington School.
The above meeting was well attended by 63 residents of Distington. The meeting was jointly chaired by John Bowman (Chair Parish Council) and Rhoda Robinson (Chair Big Local). There were representations from Big Local and from the school as well as lively open discussion.
The feeling of the meeting was almost unanimous in agreeing that Big Local should attempt to purchase the land for the village. Suggested developments for the land, voiced at the meeting were things such as —smaller housing, allotments, sports facilities and a bowling green!
It was felt a great shame that the village could not be gifted the land in appreciation of those who had raised the money for its original purchase. However it was understood that legally this was not a realistic hope.
Discussion will continue with The Royal British Legion.
